Boney on point...
By AUG Golf Fan
Boney brings back the smooth jazz that so many of us enjoy. The only way it gets better is to see him live in concert.
Needs to some Paul Brown magic...
Honesty, this is not Boney's best work by far. I have been a fan since his debut cd, "Trust" and this not at all inspiring. Personally, I would like to see him get back into the studio with producer extraordinaire Paul Brown and pair Boney up with former collaborator and stellar acoustic guitarist Peter White to bring back some of that old sexy smooth jazz that made Boney the consummate musician that he has become known for. The R&B collaborations have gotten overdone... Let's get back to the genre and collaborations that put you on top Boney!
I know a lot of people do, but I don't like this CD. There is too much R&B for me to even call this jazz. He has gone in a different direction and I hope he comes back to smooth jazz in the future.
Never fails to impress!
Been a fan since pure and will always be
I believe if this cd was recored live in a club setting it would have been lot more raw and getting back to Boney James and his earlier sound.
Exactly 25 years ago, Boney James launched one of Smooth Jazz’s most prolific careers with his debut album TRUST. The title of his 16th release HONESTLY creates the perfect thematic bookend to the multi-talented four-time Grammy nominated saxophonist, composer, producer and performer’s first quarter century. It’s also the appropriate word to capture the intimacy and sincerity with which he creates his alternately funky and dreamily seductive vibes. The new album features Boney at his most buoyant and cheerful on songs complemented by his trademark sensual, old school cool and some straight up R&B featuring two of new school’s coolest kids, vocalists Avery*Sunshine and Eric Roberson. Speaking HONESTLY, this shapes up to be another sure smash for one of the genre’s most consistent hit makers!
This is his worst, he needs to get back to his roots and make the music that made him popular. Too many vocals and to many guest artists.
I got some Terrace Martin Too, and Slow and Low sounds a little bit like Valdez off Crenshaw its still good thou
Good well rounded album but not his best
I'm a fan of Boney, and have all his albums that I listen to in order at least a couple of times a month. You can literally hear his artistic progression from Trust (1992) to maybe Contact (2011). The Beat (2013) there is stagnation. Futuresoul (2015) and now Honestly (2017) seem to revert backwards a bit. I'm was hoping for him to push forward with something new and fresh. Now don't get me wrong, Honestly has some solid hits, but it's missing that extra something that I cannot put my finger on. Nonetheless, the man is pure talent so I cannot fix myself to give him less than 4 stars.
